Assistive technology refers to equipment, tools or systems that help someone to carry out everyday activities more easily or safely. Assistive technology may be simple, such as kitchen utensils with modified grips, or more complex, such as power wheelchairs or home automation devices.
These devices help to overcome functional limitations, reduce physical strain, increase independence and improve comfort. They create opportunities for greater autonomy and quality of life.

Assistive technology can support a broad range of people, including:

Our Occupational Therapists complete detailed assessments to understand each person’s abilities, challenges and goals.
This includes reviewing daily routines, observing functional tasks, assessing the home environment and discussing what matters most to the individual and their support network.
Following the assessment, we identify assistive technology that aligns with the person’s needs. Recommendations may include standard or customised equipment, depending on functional requirements, comfort, home layout and clinical considerations.

We work with an extensive network of trusted suppliers to arrange equipment trials, ensuring the device is suitable before funding applications or purchase. Once approved, we assist with fitting, set-up and training to help individuals and carers feel confident using the equipment safely.
We prepare detailed written reports that outline the clinical reasoning behind each recommendation. These reports may be used to support applications for NDIS, Support at Home, TAC, iCare, WorkSafe, and other relevant funding pathways, where appropriate.

As needs change, we continue to support individuals by reviewing existing equipment, recommending alternatives or updating assistive technology to maintain comfort, safety and independence.
