Enabled Designs is a registered NDIS provider. We provide Occupational Therapy services to NDIS participants, including home modifications and assistive technology.

NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is a government program that provides funding to make life easier and more enjoyable for eligible people with disability.

The NDIS was introduced in 2013. It was initially established through pilot programs but was fully rolled out by 2020. The NDIS now supports over 500,000 adults and children with disability.

Who is eligible for NDIS?

Specific criteria are used to assess NDIS eligibility. You may be eligible for the NDIS if you:

Are aged 9-65 (there are some different requirements for younger people requiring early intervention)

Are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder

Live in Australia

Have a disability caused by a permanent impairment – intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical or psychosocial

Need support:

  • With daily life activities
  • Now to reduce your need for support later
  • For your family so they can build skills to help you.

How do I apply for NDIS?

If you think you could be eligible for the NDIS, your first step is to call them on 1800 800 110.

You may be referred to a local NDIS partner for help in applying to the NDIS. You may need to complete an NDIS access request form.

Once your application is approved, it’s time to develop your NDIS Plan. This sets out your goals and the support you need to achieve them.

How does NDIS funding work?

NDIS funding may be used to support the goals stated in your NDIS Plan. It could be used to:

Develop new skills

Get a job or volunteer in your community

Pay for home modifications or assistive technology to help you achieve your goals.

Who’s who in the NDIS?

Many different people work in the NDIS to support people with disability.
Some key ones include:
NDIS providers

a person, business or organisation (like Enabled Designs) who delivers NDIS-funded support to you based on their experience and skills.

NDIS support workers

someone who provides practical support to you and your family, which could include helping with personal care, household chores, paperwork or transport.

NDIS support coordinators

a support coordinator helps you make the most of the funding in your NDIS Plan and can manage funding allocation if you wish.

As a registered NDIS Provider, Enabled Designs can:

  • Help you prepare for your Plan Reassessment Meeting by providing you with a report of recommendations to meet your goals and needs throughout your next plan.
  • Provide functional capacity assessments to assist you with realising your capabilities and identifying ways to achieve greater independence and safety.
  • Provide high-quality services to successfully obtain assistive technology and home modifications to support you living at home and in the community as independently as possible.
  • Provide the assistive technology, home modifications and vehicle modification reports required for NDIS.

We take a team approach, working with your family, carers, other service providers, NDIS planners and support coordinators to help you achieve your goals.
